Press Release: H2O Degree’s LoRaWAN Battery-Powered Wireless Water Meter Measures & Records Key Water Usage and Energy Parameters

New L54120+ records total water consumption, water usage events and water temperature; Facilitates water leak detection; Long Range Wide-Area (LoRaWAN) capability eliminates requirement for repeaters

Bensalem, PA — July 14, 2022 — H2O Degree, manufacturer of advanced two-way wireless submetering systems, introduces the L54120+ battery-operated, LoRaWAN-based, wireless water meter. The L54120+ water meter measures water flow in gallons — and records the number and duration of water usage events. . The device is equipped with LoRaWAN secure wireless 915MHz technology that offers line-of-sight, bi-directional communications of over six miles. This capability reduces the need for repeaters, even in large garden-style or high-rise buildings. Additionally, the battery-operated device requires no electrical connections.

The LoRaWAN-enabled L54120+ water meter simplifies and lowers the cost of large multi-tenant water submetering installations by eliminating repeaters. With their long-range wireless connectivity, the units can operate within a 1,000 foot radius from the gateway, covering a 70-plus-acre garden-style apartment. In a high-rise facility, the units can provide 20-story radius operation from the gateway.

Utilizing H2O Degree’s Smart Metering wireless data acquisition system and PC-based software, the L54120+ water meter collects and reports water consumption data at granular levels. Property managers can access this data in the form of daily water leak reports to quickly find wasted water due to faulty toilets and leaking faucets. Accurate consumption data also allows property managers to bill tenants for their precise usage. The water meter information is also accessible to tenants via a web portal where they can view their water-usage patterns and energy consumption, thus encouraging conservation.

“The LoRaWAN wireless battery-powered L54120+ water meter adds a powerful new component to the H2O Degree Smart Metering system,” said Don Millstein, H2O Degree’s President. “By providing building management and tenants alike insight into usage data, and by holding tenants accountable for their own consumption, our system has the remarkable ability to change behaviors in a positive way. Our system provides not just data, but useful and actionable information.”

About H2O Degree

H2O Degree manufactures a broad line of wireless, radio-based submetering and leak detection systems that measure individual apartment or condo use of water, domestic hot water energy, boiler and chiller energy, electricity, gas and BTUs. The systems are ideal for tenant billing, flood and leak detection reporting down to the toilet level and energy analytics. The company also offers Green Thermostats, which track energy use and apartment temperature while allowing tenants and property owners to set temperature set-points and schedules, adjust set-back temperatures when tenants are away or asleep, report HVAC maintenance issues, and provide control for vacant utility cost.
